Founded at Walnut Street Baptist Church in downtown Louisville to assist orphans after the Civil War, Sunrise has since reached thousands of children, rescuing them from abuse and providing a path to healing and hope. To commemorate our 155th anniversary, we’re inviting 1,000 donors to contribute $155 each. Your support will enable us to continue changing lives, offering more children a chance for a brighter future.
Sunrise is presently serving close to 700 children and families throughout the State of Kentucky! We have also celebrated over 30 adoptions just this fiscal year.
Sunrise Children’s Services began in 1869 when ladies from Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville formed the Louisville Baptist Orphan’s Home to care for orphans of the Civil War. Later, we would expand and be named the Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children. Today, Sunrise remains the child welfare arm of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, providing residential, foster care, foster-to-adopt, independent living, and family services programs across this state.

Sunrise continues to evolve to meet the growing needs of youth in crisis. Our commitment to providing targeted support is exemplified by our newest program, New Start Adolescent Treatment Facility, which specifically aids youth struggling with addiction. This program not only offers vital resources and treatment but also fosters resilience and long-term recovery through comprehensive care and support services.
