It’s no small task to cover the cost of and feed around 90 youth in our four residential programs (including one specialized psychiatric treatment facility) each day. Each client is provided three meals a day and two snacks, but the federal government’s school nutrition program reimburses only a portion of the meal costs for breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. So how is the remainder of the food paid for? As food prices continue to rise, Sunrise now must cover the cost of around 82 cents a day per client, a number that hits the organization’s bottom line.
Sunrise is asking its supporters to donate gift cards that will be specifically designated for food purchases to feed Sunrise’s residential clients. Walmart and Kroger are Sunrise’s preferred food retailers, although gift cards from other grocery chains like Meijer, IGA and Food Lion are graciously accepted.
For questions about Food Round Up, contact Penny Beighey, Sunrise’s food services director, at 502-538-1000 or email pbeighey@sunrise.org. Gifts and bequests to Sunrise’s ministry are deductible for income and estate tax purposes. Download our flyer and spread the word!
