Food Services

Ensuring the health and well-being of children at Sunrise Children's Services is paramount.

Our food guidelines, meticulously planned by the Food Services Department, align with USDA nutritional standards to guarantee that every meal provided meets the highest nutritional criteria. Recognizing the transient nature of our population, we prioritize both mental and physical health. Children at Sunrise receive nutrition education upon admission, supplemented with ongoing activities that reinforce healthy eating habits. Additionally, we offer free, nutritionally compliant meals and snacks, ensuring that every child has access to balanced nutrition without the option to purchase less healthy alternatives. Regular physical activity is scheduled, and the health metrics of each child, such as height, weight, and BMI, are closely monitored to address any significant changes promptly. Our comprehensive approach, which includes staff training and ongoing program evaluations, ensures that we continually meet the dietary and wellness needs of our residents, fostering an environment conducive to their overall health and development.

The USDA’s Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder is a web-based tool designed to help families locate nearby summer meal sites that provide free meals and snacks to children 18 and younger. Users can search by zip code, city, or address to find detailed information about site locations, meal schedules, and whether meals are provided on-site or to-go. The site is updated weekly with data from state agencies, ensuring accurate and current information. This tool is accessible via desktop and mobile devices, supporting community efforts to combat child hunger during summer breaks.
